David Harkins, the president and CEO of Harkins Concrete Construction, Inc. and Harkins Ready Mix, Inc., died suddenly; it was reported that he committed suicide.
Harkins, his wife Audrey, and their son David resided in Salisbury. In the community, he is a member of the Salvation Army’s Salisbury Advisory Board, The Life Crisis Center, and the Diamond Dreams Youth Center Board of Directors.
David Harkins received his degree in 1992 with a finance specialization from the University of Richmond’s E. Claiborne Robins School of Business. After graduating from college, David, who had been involved in construction since he was sixteen, took over as general manager of Harkins Concrete Construction. Harkins Contracting was established in 1997 by David and his father George, followed by Harkins Ready Mix in 2004 and Black River Development in 2007.
